Among the beautiful hills and valleys in Southern France, lies a medieval fortress called Carcassonne. Inspired by this centuries-old land, Klaus-Jurgen Wrede created an award-winning game where you get to create the beautiful landscapes of Carcassonne by laying tiles that fill in the countryside around the fortified city. The tiles you lay create winding roads, lazy rivers, cities, monasteries, and fields. Mechanisms include area control and tile laying.

Loved by new and experienced players alike, Carcassonne has three simple steps - (1) place a title, (2) place a meeple, and (3) score points. Each tile laid creates an ever-expanding board on which players can compete for the best areas to control for points. However, your best-laid plans can be cleverly thwarted by an opponent - your tiles may be blocked, or points may be stolen, so plan the road to victory carefully.

Carcassonne in an original stand-alone game, but there are several expansions available.

Mechanics include:  area majority/influence and tile placement.
